How it all started...
I was born and raised in a small island
called Curaçao, a Dutch Caribbean
Island. We enjoy full sun 365 days a year and live very close to clear blue sea
and warm sand. Curaçao has a population
of approximately 165.000 inhabitants. As a small island, we mainly import our
food, which lead to high prices in the supermarkets for basic fruit and
vegetables.
This
mainly, combined with our first lock down in 2020, inspired me to start my own
backyard gardening. This quickly became a big passion of mine and I would never
go back! Being self-sustaining and conscious about food waste became a big
aspect of my everyday living.
It’s still
mind blowing for me to see how we can sow a small seed and get food, which we
can eat and nurture our families with. It took me several tries and failures
before I could successfully harvest, which is why I decided to make this
website, in order to share my experience and knowledge with others who are also
considering starting their own backyard gardening.
I believe
that there is a lot that we can plant and harvest at our small island, but we
have the tendency to continue growing the standard crops, of which we know will
succeed 100%. In my opinion, farmers and backyard gardeners need to start growing
other crops to get the experience, so we can hopefully start importing fewer
products in the future, which will of course lead to lower prices for our
locals on the long run.
Next to having a passion for gardening, I also
love cooking, baking and everything that revolves around food. So, I will also
share some recipes on this website.
By means of
it all, welcome to my world where only positive enhancements are allowed. Let’s
keep learning and growing together!
